—Albert Camus UNfiltered Someone says that words are the most powerful medicine, but I’m not so sure, because these medicines make me forget how to use them. But I’ll try to heal myself through them… ironic, isn’t it? Life is like a roller coaster, with ups and downs, but what do you do when the climb is long, perhaps too steep, and the descent is nowhere in sight? So many times I wish I could give up, it would be easier, a clean break, a new chapter, a new beginning, but then I pause. I take a breath, look back, and realize that to look to the future, I have to be thankful for my past. “Per aspera ad astra,” through adversity to the stars, that is my goal, and if I have to fight to reach it, I will learn to rest during the climb. I disappeared, it’s true, but often, in order to communicate with others, you first have to learn to communicate with yourself. In recent months, there have been many upheavals and changes in my life, so I am finding myself again. This is a sports column, but sometimes life chooses for itself, and with the start of the new year, volleyball and I will be running on two different tracks. It’s not goodbye, I don’t like goodbyes, it’s until next time. It’s a break, in some ways forced, in others chosen, from a relationship that has lasted for 17 long years. Ours is a deep, rooted love. It has given me immense joy, unimaginable experiences, and also pain. So much pain. You have always had enormous influence over me. You rebuilt me and helped me find myself when I felt broken and lost, but you also destroyed me physically. You made me discover what it means to suffer for love, to continue despite everything for an ideal, a purpose. The time has come to lock you away in a drawer, I don’t know for how long, but for once I have to put the person Sofia before the Sofia athlete. My hands are sweating, the keyboard is dotted with droplets, it’s difficult to put my thoughts down, or rather, reality. It’s difficult because once it’s written, it’s final, permanent, and this is terrifying. The beginning of this year has truly tested me. It has been a constant struggle, point by point that has slowly worn me down. I am at a point where I walk through the darkness of night. It is frightening, there is little light, and the shadows are too many, but in 2026, I wanna keep walking, a lot, no matter of what I find along the way, because I know that sooner
